Gash is my artist name because my work is what flows out of my open mind, much like an open wound. I began working with paint on canvas in 2023, just after graduating high school. Previous to my artistic exploration, I was taken purely by fashion and the world of clothing design in an artistic setting. Fashion influences my work and I do fashion design, they move hand in hand in my mind. I enjoy ideas utilizing anti-beauty and my work is a critique of the culture of artists trying to show the bright, pretty side of their expression. My goal in art is to create visual representations of the struggles you & I endure.

I am Jack McCarthy, from Hazlet, New Jersey. I’m a Fashion Design student at Brookdale Community College, and have been researching and illustrating fashion design for many years. The fashion that interests me is of artistic expression, designers like Rei Kawakubo and Walter Van Beirendonck inspire my tastes. In art, Francis Bacon and Picasso have been my biggest influences, Bacon’s ability to make simple concepts something so artistically full fascinated me and drew me into exploring my abilities on canvas.
